Recipe #114
Category: Frozen Desserts, Candy & Sweet Extras
Yield: Not specified on family recipe
Method: Blend and freeze
Prep: Not specified on family recipe
Bake/Freeze: Freeze until firm
Difficulty: Beginner-friendly
Recipe Details
Kosher: Pareve. Texture: Smooth frozen fruit ice. Best feature: Only a handful of ingredients and one blender step.
Important Egg-Safety Correction
This recipe is blended and frozen without cooking the egg. Use a pasteurized shell egg or pasteurized egg product. Do not use an ordinary raw shell egg in the finalized website version.
What a Beginner Should Look For
Fruit mixture: Smooth with no banana or strawberry chunks. Finished ice: Firm enough to scoop, slice, or unmold cleanly.
Why Pasteurized Egg Is Used
The original family recipe has one egg and no cooking step. The finalized website version keeps the egg but makes the safety requirement explicit.
Beginner Tips
  • Blend until fully smooth before freezing.
  • Scrape down the blender if fruit collects above the blades.
  • Use a freezer-safe container with enough room to cover securely.
  • Let the dessert freeze fully before serving.
Troubleshooting
Ices are uneven: The fruit was not blended long enough. Mixture separates before freezing: Blend again until fully emulsified. Dessert softens quickly: Return it to the freezer between servings.
Make Ahead, Storage & Freezing
Keep frozen and covered. The family recipe does not give a specific storage period, so none is added.
Tip to Hand Down
The whole recipe is only as smooth as the first blend – take the extra moment to make the fruit mixture completely even before it goes into the freezer.
