Tangy Sesame Sauce

No ratings yet
A sweet-tangy sesame sauce made with brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, and vinegar.

Ingredients

Sauce
  • 1 cup (200 g) brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp oil
  • 2 Tbsp vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp mustard
  • 5 Tbsp ketchup
  • Sesame seeds, as recorded in the family recipe, for sprinkling or stirring in

Method

  1. Combine the brown sugar, oil, vinegar, mustard, and ketchup in a small saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves and the sauce is smooth.
  3. Stir in or sprinkle with sesame seeds to taste. The original family card did not preserve an exact sesame-seed amount, so none is invented here.
  4. Use warm over crispy chicken, nuggets, or schnitzel strips.

Notes

Recipe #184
Yield: Makes about 1 1/2 cups
Category: Sauces & Dressings
Helpful Notes
  • Best with #176 Chinese Chicken, schnitzel strips, or nuggets.
  • The mustard and vinegar keep this sauce brighter and tangier than the sweeter sesame sauce.
  • Do not overcook; the sauce only needs to become smooth and cohesive.
Storage
Cool completely and refrigerate in a covered container. Stir before reheating or using.
